♪♪♪♪ >> You gave me a divot here to look at, so I want to — I know it wasn’t your best swing, but it’s — You’re not a big divot guy, so I’m gonna take advantage of a divot here to take a look and maybe try to help everybody understand what to look at when you’re looking at your divots. First, we kind of look at this line that your club traveled through. There’s a path to that club, right? So, what we’re looking for in our divot — we’re either looking for what you did here, which is a straight line. Something like that. The other thing that we’re looking for that’s also acceptable is a “U” pattern. Sometimes, you’ll see kind of a “U” that points here, right in the middle. So, what I’m looking for is trying to make sure that that club is entering the turf with the correct lie angle. If it comes in toe-first, like this, basically, this divot would look like this. The toe would enter first. Then the center. Then the heel. Right? If we went heel-first, it would be the opposite. We’d see this divot looking like this. You’d see the straight line of your club, but you’d see that heel entered first. Then the center. Then the toe. What happens is — if our lie angle isn’t correct, if the heel hits first, that club can tend to shut, right? If the toe hits first, that face wants to kick open. >> Sure. >> So, sometimes, our problems of direction can be caused by just having the wrong lie angle on our golf clubs. The other — Now, the last thing I’m looking at here with the divot is the depth. And we can just put our finger in here and just kind of feel how deep this divot is, and if we feel it deep in the toe section or deep in the heel section, there’s one more indicator of toe’s hitting first, just ’cause it’s deeper, and that’s gonna make a deeper impression than this side is, okay? >> Absolutely. >> So, that’s how we can kind of learn how to read our divots. It’s a great thing, especially if you’re struggling or working on your swing. Let’s say your coach makes a swing change and you’re struggling, and, all of a sudden, you’re seeing this tendency that wasn’t there before, hey, check out your divot, ’cause maybe we need to adjust the lie angle of your club with some new move you have going.Make sense? >> Makes sense. >> Perfect. >> Absolutely. >> Excellent. .
